BEACON

 

An app that connects Graphic Designers to Musicians during a time of the COVID-19 shutdown.

My final project during my undergrad, BEACON is an app I created that was an answer to how I could use my graphic design skills to help a local community— this was helping local musicians and bands.

My solution was a way to take one group within the arts—Graphic Designers—and provide a way of support during a time when live music holding venues and locations were shutdown for an unknown span of time during the COVID shutdown.

Branding

The beginning of this project required establishing a name for my product. Once BEACON was chosen, the brand visual language was designed.

Promotional Ads

Designing promotional ads for the BEACON app became a place of creative expression. Focusing on the CTA for both Graphic Designers and musician to download the app and learn more.

Physical Products

The third component to this project required designing physical products. For the BEACON brand, these products range from drinks that could be sold at a live show, to a mint mouth spray for designers about to step into an important interview.

Pegasus Logo

Designing a logo that was unique, strong and referencing a creature from myth embodying the symbology of hope, creativity, ambition and strength became the main anchor for the branding to grow from.

I wanted to create not an app that was to be used for a specific function, but also visually beautiful as well to immediately deliver the visual language of a welcoming app for creatives to engage with.

Fonts & Colors

The colors and fonts for BEACON correlate to the mythical roots of the logo, while establishing a visually strong, confident brand language through the use of inviting colors that come off the screen .

Promotional Ads

After the branding of BEACON, designing the promotional material for the app came second. These would be placed in public spaces in large printed formats to grab attention and engage passers by.

Physical Products

 

The third component to this project required designing real products for the BEACON brand. I wanted to create things that were unconventional yet fun, and would more importantly bring attention to the BEACON brand outside of the just the app. These products would be purchased at live music events and by the designers who use the BEACON app.

BEACON App

The final deliverable for this project was the BEACON app itself. One of the most rewarding components to this project, allowing me to do UI/UX design for a visually beautiful app meant for musicians and designers to collaborate and create in one space. Here the entire branding identity for BEACON shines for the users of the app.
